Mixson Avenue Master Plan
This conceptual plan depicts a full build out of the neighborhood. It includes housing styles ranging from flats and townhomes to single-family homes with small private yards. Note the realignment of Mixson Avenue to create a slower, more people-friendly center street. The apartments and commercial district will be focused along this corridor.
When you first experience Mixson you will immediately notice it feels a little different. The roads are narrower. Homes are closer to the street. Buildings are clustered in creative ways to enhance the spaces in between. Outdoor rooms complement interior landscapes. Serendipity is celebrated. Some call it New Urbanism. Some call it traditional neighborhood design. We call it a welcome change.
Come take a walk to experience this “new” way of living and you'll see why Mixson just feels a little different.
Mixson Avenue Parks
Mixson Avenue's first public space will be an intimate courtyard on Summey Street at its intersection with McCarthy Street. The courtyard is designed around a 50 year old picturesque Laurel Oak and includes a small bubbling fountain.
This space is designed to be flexible - so it should be perfect whether you are looking for a place to read a book in the shade, have a neighborhood weekend cookout, or anything in between. The Mixson Avenue neighborhood benefits from a substantial collection of trees of a variety of species. Live oaks, laurel oaks, magnolias, and maples are found scattered throughout the property. Mixson is designed to protect these trees and their natural beauty.
Incredible care has been taken to design the streets for pedestrians, bicyclists, and playing children as well as for cars. Mixson streets are places in their own right: public spaces that support a vibrant community life, and offer safe transport to all.
